Located five miles east of Cheltenham in the shadow of an Elizabethan manor, the family-run Whittington press (established by John Randle in 1971) will be throwing open its doors on Saturday 1st September, accompanied by Presstival, an annual event for the delectation of printing and typography enthusiasts.
Pat Randle, mastermind behind the event, has printed this beautiful poster on a Heidelberg cylinder press from an assortment of typefaces with clever use of masking and split-duct inking to achieve the bunting motif.
The event will feature Neil Winter – in charge of on-site monotype casting – casting 72pt Caslon Titling from a Monotype Supercaster, whilst outside Albion and Farley presses will be set up with visitors invited to print a poster to take away.
A selection of work printed at the press over the past year will also be on display, as well as work from a collection of other letterpress printers and printmakers including The Old School Press, Dennis Gould, and ourselves.
Presstival takes place on Saturday 1 September 2012, from 1pm at The Whittington Press, Whittington Court, Whittington, nr Cheltenham Gloucestershire GL54 4HF
